The Apu or Humantay snow-capped mountain has an altitude of 5478 m.a.s.l. located near the Salkantay snow-capped mountain, in the Vilcanota mountain range of the Cusco Andes. The Humantay Lagoon is at an altitude of 4200 meters above sea level. This lagoon would have been formed because of the melting of the Apu Humantay.
The word Humantay is of Quechua origin and the meaning is "The Head of Gods" and the word Salkantay means "Wild Mountain".
